Abstract
There is a connection between child maltreatment and later juvenile delinquency. This study examined collaboration and information sharing between a county probation department and child welfare/child protective services (CPS) through interviewing probation officers. There were a total of five interviews. The study utilized qualitative content analysis methodology. It was discovered that there is acknowledgement of the multiple contributing risk factors to juvenile delinquency; therefore, a thorough assessment is conducted. The participants of the research study identified three specific types of collaboration and information sharing that occurs between the county probation department and child welfare/CPS. These were: requests for referrals from child welfare/CPS; an interagency meeting; and a 241 report. Recommendations and implications for social work policy and practice are discussed.
