Abstract
This project aims to develop a training guide to help teachers, administrators, and school staff to support refugee students as they adjust to life in U.S. school. Based on research related to the refugee experience, mental health challenges, and social-emotional and academic difficulties, the guide will provide professional development to address these students' unique needs. The training will focus on supporting refugee students with mental health, social-emotional, and behavioral concerns. The guide will include pre- and post-test surveys to measure the effectiveness of the training and the ability to provide feedback for more effective training. This project aims to fill the gaps in strategies for supporting refugee students, particularly in areas like mental health, trauma, and cultural integration. By providing teachers, administration, and school staff with the right tools, knowledge, and resources, this training will foster a more inclusive and supportive environment, promoting both the academic success and emotional well-being of refugee students. The goal of this project is to equip teachers and staff with the necessary tools to help refugee students feel safe, valued, and understood in their new school environment.
