Abstract
Sexual violence has remained a global issue, yet there is a lack of recognition and acknowledgement for survivors of sexual violence. Despite the significant impact of sexual violence, no permanent and public memorial has ever been built to honor survivors—until the inauguration of the Survivors Memorial in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This Memorial stands as a community response to violence, rape culture, and injustices. It is a powerful symbol of solidarity and validates the experiences, suffering, and courage of survivors. However, the Memorial’s existence remains relatively unknown, both locally and nationally. To bring awareness to the need for public acknowledgement of survivors and their experiences, this Memorial must be widely recognized to foster societal change, support, and healing.The purpose of this project was to raise awareness about the Memorial and engage diverse communities to benefit from the space. By doing so, the project aimed to bring attention to this global pressing issue—violence against women, raise awareness of its implications, and encourage wider societal engagement with the Memorial as a space of healing, truth-telling, solidarity, and education.
