Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the barriers reentry populations encounter upon release after long-term incarceration. A qualitative content analysis research design using a snowball sampling method of ten formerly incarcerated participants were recruited to participate in this study. Four common themes were identified: parole as a barrier to reentry, mental health hardships, stigma and marginalization, and females’ perspectives as formerly incarcerated mothers. Implications for social work policy and practice are discussed.
