Abstract

Title IX Adolescent parenthood Student parent
Pregnant and parenting adolescents face unique challenges due to the intersection of adolescent development and parenthood, which can create significant disruption in both their academic and social-emotional functioning. This project was developed to provide educators and school psychologists with the tools necessary to better support this population and their families. This project details the policy and legal context surrounding pregnant and parenting students, including Title IX protections and the structural inequities that disproportionately impact adolescents from communities of color and lower socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as the risk and protective factors that shape their outcomes. This project is designed to serve as a practical, collaborative resource for school psychologists and educators to promote educational continuity, mental health, and long-term well-being for adolescent parents and their children.
