Abstract
The primary purpose of this project is to present the various folkloric and cultural aspects that form important parts of the lives of the people who live in a small village in México. The citizens of the village provided the majority of data used for this work. Men, women, and children were interviewed on various occasions during my stay in the village. Historical, geographical, and anthropological magazines and books were consulted as well. The traditional way of life in this village has been ultimately affected by new ideas and different cultural aspects introduced by outsiders, and people of the village who have migrated to other places in Mexico and to the United States. Television has also affected the traditional folklife of the villagers, especially that of young people and children. Mexican novelas (soap opera) and Disney movies are putting at bay the traditional way of living and thinking of the young villagers. It is possible that the cultural and popular aspects presented in this project will disappear within the next generation if they continue being affected by the factors presented above.
