Abstract
United States Service Members are a population of individuals whose psychological health can be greatly affected by the environments in which they serve. With many service members returning from deployment with behavioral health challenges such as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), major depressive disorder (MDD), and other physical and psychological challenges, it is essential to ensure that the services being offered to this population are effective and accessible. This quantitative study sought to better understand the views and perceptions of service members who are pursuing higher education in regard to the types of services they are receiving from their campus Veterans Resource Centers. The research concluded that service members are not currently receiving behavioral health focused treatments from their school VRC, and identified that service members are generally not aware of art therapy as an available treatment modality (including its potential benefits, and its accessibility both within and outside of the college setting).
