Abstract
The homelessness crisis is a growing problem in the United States. According to a January 2020 study, there were 580,466 people experiencing homelessness in the United States. The COVID 19 pandemic, combined with inflation and rising rents, negatively impacted the crisis, and made this crisis worse. Homelessness is spread across all states and affects individuals, families, people of all genders, and all racial and ethnic backgrounds. With this growth rate, the US federal and state government constantly attempts to maintain aid programs, however many individuals do not benefit from the available aid due to the lack of information. This project aims to build an android app that provides information on the available aids and centers.
The primary contribution of this project will focus on the 3 main requirements of homeless people in California. Healthcare refers to the available state/federal government health care programs and centers. Employment refers to individual contractors or organizations hiring individuals for either long term or short-term jobs with easy application process. Chat is a one-on-one chat feature to allow users to reach out to closest social workers who can help them seek for possible opportunities within their geographical location.
