Abstract
In this project we are using the software OpenDSS (Open Distribution System Simulator) in order to assess the effects of high penetration of renewable energy in the distribution grid. The problem to be addressed by this project is involving the California power grid, specifically its solar power sources and energy storage systems. As the literatures suggest there are many challenges in the grid that can be alleviated by using renewable energy. Typical grid systems have been modeled and simulated in this project using OpenDSS software. The results are analyzed and recommendations are made to improve the approach to some of the challenges in the grid implementation and performance.
