Abstract

Academic-athletic balance Coping mechanisms Stigma Student-athlete well-being Campus support
Collegiate athlete’s mental health concerns have been on the rise in the past years. As student-athletes enter the spotlight in college settings, they face pressures to perform at their best while also maintaining their academic responsibilities. This study explores stressors that affect their mental health and analyzes support services that have been put into place to help. The study concluded that pressures such as stigma and limited access to resources are affecting athletes’ mental health. Another conclusion was that athletic programs must improve these resources by tailoring them to better support student-athletes.
