Abstract
Not all students learn the same nor do they compete in the educational arena equally. More pressure is placed on teachers, students and administration to raise test scores, especially for subgroups. The question is how does the demand to meet the challenges of AYP and API change the way students are taught by teachers? Would educators teach more effectively if they did not have to prepare students for high stakes testing? Based on the research of scholarship and the data collected, teachers do feel that they are expected to prepare students for state mandated tests. When school reforms start focusing on test scores and not on educating students, we all lose.
