Abstract
This study described the relationship between adverse childhood experiences scores and individuals seeking domestic violence services. This explanatory quantitative survey research study used Systems Theory and a non- probability convenience and random sampling methods when selecting 100 cases from a secondary data set from a Northern California agency. The questionnaire in the data set had Likert Scale type questions to identify adverse childhood experiences by adults 18 years of age or older and what prompted individuals to seek domestic violence services, including additional demographics. Data analysis revealed statistically significant findings, which illustrated that majority of services are utilized by females who scored four or more on the ACEs. However, this study also demonstrates the need for further research into specific areas of policy that assists rural areas with supportive services. Implications for social work practice and policy are discussed.
