Abstract
Latinx youth represent the fastest growing ethnic minority population in the U.S. As many immigrant families migrate to the U.S. their children and adolescents undergo an acculturation process where Latinx youth face many social emotional and academic risk factors. Some of the associated risk factors include acculturation stress, low educational outcomes, poor school performance, limited English language proficiency, depression, suicide, perceived discrimination, bullying, and language barriers. This project, The Acculturation Process among Latinx Youth and Strategies to Best Support their Social Emotional Well-being in the School Environment, was developed to explore the acculturation process amongst Latinx youth, create cultural awareness and cultural competence, describe social emotional risk factors associated with Latinx youth, and provide strategies to support and prepare educators when working with the Latinx youth in the school environment.
