Abstract
Federal and state mandates have failed to provide appropriate learning objectives for the moderate to severe learners included in general education social studies and science classes. Utilizing the CREATER Method, this project seeks to provide essential core content learning objectives for the moderate-severe learners in 4th and 5th grade general education social studies and science classrooms.
The project's first phase defines shared learning objectives between California State Standards and California Alternative Standards. These objectives serve as "access points" to grade level, general education curriculum for the moderate-severe learner. In the second phase, supporting curriculum was developed for the defined access points to meet the needs of this student population; thus bridging this educational gap.
