Abstract
Research has found the graduation rates of Black student-athletes has been historically lower when compared to their White peers, but there has been limited research has exploring the academic successes of Black student-athletes. The extant research has focused on Black male student-athletes but has excluded Black female student-athletes. The goal of this qualitative study was to understand the collegiate academic experiences of Black female student-athletes. Specifically, the purpose was to explore their academic experiences and find ways to address the academic achievement gap between them and their peers. Thematic analysis was used to identify five themes regarding the experiences of Black female undergraduate student-athletes. Findings focused on the resources that support academic success in Black female undergraduate student-athletes.
