Abstract
There is a serious problem with the educational attainment for Latino students. Historically, Latino students are not graduating from high school because they are not acquiring the necessary skills for academic achievement. Many factors contribute to the large number of Latino students that are not successfully graduating from high school. Sources of Data This study incorporates multiple methods for data collection including students and parents interviews, and compilation of student academic records. Researcher conducted semi-structured interviews gathering qualitative data. Interviews were directed individually to six Latino second language learner students and their parents. This study was conducted over the period of one year. Conclusions Reached Research concludes that secondary support programs are extremely important in the academic success of Latino English Language Learners. Accesses to some support programs are limited to a small number of participants meeting particular criteria.
