Abstract
This qualitative exploratory study examined the spiritual beliefs and values of Hmong women, with regard to the impact of the same on their marital relationships. The study subjects were 12 Hmong-American women in the age range of 22 to 45. Participants were selected using a non-probability convenience sample from the Hmong Americans living in the Sacramento region. The obstacles that Hmong wives encounter in the United States due to the role changes in their lives and the consequences of the changes on their marital relationships were explored. Study findings evidence the fact that although the roles of women have changed from being housewives to income earners and
marketplace workers, there are no corresponding role changes for males within the family domain of Hmong culture and this causes disappointments and role boundary violations to the distress of the women. Both researchers equally participated in conducting this study.
