Abstract
Films and movies have long captivated society and have even been utilized during social crises in variable ways. The AIDS Pandemic was no exception as AIDS films quickly seized upon the gore, drama, and stories of love and loss. Before long, art imitated life in films with their drama laden storylines of sex, mischief, and underground lifestyles. AIDS Stigma is center stage in this in-depth content analysis of five AIDS films. Research questions focused on asking if these films were conducive to the social constructions of AIDS Stigma were expressed in four ways: Instrumental, Symbolic, Other Symbolic, and Courtesy. The findings are that these five films exhibit copious examples of AIDS stigma.
