Abstract
Current juvenile detention centers have failed to adequately address the high recidivism rates, thus perpetuating an ineffective juvenile justice system, in which youthful. offenders are cycled in and out of institutional facilities. The goal in developing transition plans for young adults exiting detention centers is to reduce the likelihood of recidivism, and prepare them for success when re-joining the community by helping teens become emotionally balanced, socially adjusted, and academically oriented while introducing them to community-based programs, training courses, and job search options.
