Abstract
Over the past decades in California the population growth within the Asian and Latino immigrants and refugees has been continuous. With this increase, there is still an underutilization of mental health services between these two groups. This study attempts to gain an in-depth understanding of the relationship between mental health issues and acculturation difficulties that are affecting these two populations. Past literatures were reviewed and collaborated with five expert interviews. The review showed common themes between the literature and the conducted interviews with recommendations for
professional working in with the Asian and Latino populations. The major themes were the use of folk remedies and native or traditional ways such as the use of herbals and seeking help from families in substitution with Western medicine and services. Also, family conflicts are among the acculturation process. The recommendations were to have more and multiple resources and outreach to allow easier access.
