Abstract
The study concerns generally a comparison of certain socio-economic factors involved in the more serious cases of truancy in the Grant Union High School District. Specifically, the problem for investigation is to formulate a description of certain selected characteristics from the pattern of life of forty-two boys who were the most serious attendance cases in the three junior high schools of the Grant Union High School District during the school year 1953-54. This study seeks to ascertain if there is evidence, based upon data from these forty-two cases, that might assist in answering such questions as these: Do truant boys constitute a fairly homogeneous group? Do they tend to have many characteristics in common or do they tend to have patterns of life that vary widely? Are there any outstanding characteristics, as round in the lives of these forty-two boys, that might be high indicators for describing the characteristics of the junior high school truant?
