Abstract
A Requiem for Modern Times is a twelve movement musical work composed for chorus and orchestra. The movements which I used are the Introitus, Kyrie, Graduale, Dies Irae, Tuba Mirum, Confutatis, Lacrimosa, Offertorium, Sanctus and Benedictus, Agnus Dei, Libera Me, and In Pardisum. The instrumentation of the orchestra is for two flutes with one doubling on piccolo, two oboes, two B-flat clarinets with one doubling on bass clarinet, two bassoons, two horns, trumpet in C, trombone, tuba, and string section along with an SATB chorus. I analyzed the style of past compositions to understand their historical, cultural, and musical significance and produced a work of music which looks back to the past and forward to what is to come.
