Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to present a descriptive history of the physical development of the bassoon from its earliest appearance as a primitive conical twin-bored instrument in 1550 to present date. Through an interest in the history of musical instruments and the added incentive of years of study on the bassoon, the author has undertaken this history.
