Abstract
This study aims to describe the content on TikTok posted under the hashtag bimbo (#bimbo) and examine the content’s relation to feminist movement literature. I examine the second and Third-Wave Feminist literature and find that although some Second-Wave Feminist literature themes resonate with #bimbo content, Third-Wave Feminist literature most closely resembles #bimbo content on TikTok. I utilized a theoretical sampling method to collect data during Black History Month, February 2022 (n=100) and Women’s History Month March 2022 (n=100) then examined the sample using Third-Wave Feminist literature as a framework to describe themes found in the content. The study reveals several prevailing themes in these videos, with the top five being Heavy Makeup (82.1%), Hyperfemininity (71%), Sexy Clothing (67.5%), Pink (52%), and Subject Self-Sexualization (24.1%). Upon closer examination, these themes align closely with Third-Wave Feminist ideologies, particularly Neoliberal, Choice, and Empowerment feminism.
