Abstract
The purpose of this project was to explore the assets of mental health professionals and to determine what coping strategies and coping skills, help prevent burnout in the mental health field. A web-based survey was sent out to a group of mental health professionals to explore symptoms of burnout, as well as coping skills and coping strategies being used in the field and in their everyday lives. The data gathered form the survey indicated that mental heath professionals reported some symptoms of stress and a variety of coping skills that seem to help reduce and prevent burnout in the mental health field. Specifically, the results revealed that mental health workers are aware of and practice coping skills and strategies that help them maintain balance in their lives. In this study of 25 (N=25) participants from a non-profit agency in Sacramento, mental health professionals exhibit some symptoms of burnout, but are able to maintain balance between work and their personal lives. The coping strategies and assets used most by mental health professionals-have been reported.
