Abstract
Statement of Problem
The use of field trips in the science classroom is imperative. Students need the hands-on and multi-modality learning opportunities available through such events. However, because of a variety of issues including budget cuts, administrative issues, and the emphasis on state content standards, field trip opportunities are being utilized less and less by teachers.
Sources of Data
An evaluation of research from the areas of education and psychology, including researchers such as Jerome Bruner, Howard Gardner, Michael Michie, and Falk & Balling was utilized. Also, a large number of field trip sites in the Sacramento area were contacted and asked for information to include in the field trip manual.
Conclusions Reached

The use of field trips provides the opportunity not only for students to experience these multiple modalities in learning, but also gives them a chance to experience a particular subject in an often novel and more memorable way. The field trip guide (provided at the readily into their yearly curriculum, as it includes key information for planning and conducting the trip, as well as identification of, and connections to, pertinent content standards.
