Abstract
The purpose of this research study was to analyze the effect of 360 degree feedback on the multi-team system of the Caltrans District 3 transportation project development system in terms of the constructs of interpersonal communication, intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, and shared temporal mental model. Participants for this research project were Caltrans District 3 employees from the various teams involved in five different Caltrans transportation projects (N = 62). Data on the constructs was collected via three online surveys that consisted of a baseline survey prior to the feedback, a 360 degree feedback survey to collect the feedback results, and a post feedback survey. The purpose of this design was to analyze the effect of the 360 degree feedback from a pre-post intervention research design. The results of this study indicated that 360 degree feedback had a significant impact on three of the four constructs, demonstrating that the feedback intervention significantly improved intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, and shared temporal mental model. This research project extended the understanding of the practical use of 360 degree feedback systems. Theoretical and practical implications are provided and discussed.
