Abstract
Latina/Chicana womxn constantly resist within the academy through everydayness. Resistance is commonly viewed from a deficit and negative lens perpetuating This study tells the resistance stories of six strong, determined Latina/Chicana womxn navigating the academy in the greater Bay Area. These womxn have experienced the academy as students, faculty, or staff and discovered ways of individual and collective resistance as a community. Through critical race counter storytelling, the experiences of these six Latina/Chicana womxn take the center as a celebration of their excellence within the academy. The captive maternal model, as a leadership paradigm rooted in resistance, is recommended for Latina/Chicana womxn and all womxn of color to employ. This serves as a model for these womxn to enact as mentors, advisors, community members, and leaders. Thus, allowing womxn to celebrate their resistance and enact these strategies in their everydayness.
