Abstract
A patient status post rotator cuff repair and biceps tenodesis was seen for student physical therapy treatment for 18 visits over 12 weeks at an outpatient orthopedic clinic under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist.
The patient was evaluated at the initial encounter with the QuickDASH, Numeric Pain Rating Scale, and goniometry and a plan of care was established to address pain and decreased shoulder range of motion. Main goals for the patient were to decrease her left shoulder pain and range of motion loss so she could return to her favorite hobbies which included making gourmet meals for her family. Main interventions used were manual therapy, passive and active range of motion exercises, and strengthening for the rotator cuff muscles. The patient achieved the following goals: a decreased QuickDASH score to below her pre-operative level, decreased pain level with activities, and increased ability to prepare meals.
