Abstract
A 79-year old male patient status post left total shoulder arthroplasty was seen for physical therapy treatment for 14 sessions, over 7 weeks, in an outpatient physical therapy clinic. Treatment was provided by a student physical therapist under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist. The patient was evaluated at the initial evaluation with range of motion, strength, pain, and upper extremity function using the quickDASH. After performing the appropriate assessments, a plan of care was established with a shared decision to act. The main goals for the patient were to improve strength and range of motion in order to increase left upper extremity function to perform everyday tasks and return to exercising at a gym. Main interventions were mobility and strength training to restore upper extremity function. The patient improved in range of motion, strength, pain, and upper extremity function. The patient was discharged to home with a home exercise program.
