Abstract
A patient post arthroscopic rotator cuff repair of the left shoulder was seen for physical therapy treatment for 16 treatments over an eight week period at an outpatient physical therapy clinic. Interventions were performed by a student physical therapist under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist. The patient was evaluated at the initial encounter with goniometry, manual muscle testing, and the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index, and a plan of care was established. Main goals for the patient were to decrease pain, increase range of motion and strength, and return to weight lifting and running. Main interventions used were modalities for pain, manual therapy for range of motion, and therapeutic exercise for strength. The patient achieved the following goals: increased strength, range of motion and function, and decreased pain. The patient was discharged to her home with a home exercise program.
