Abstract
A patient with Infantile Spasms and Developmental Delays was seen for physical therapy treatment-provided by a doctoral student of physical therapy for 13 sessions from March to May 2014 at a university setting under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist. The patient was evaluated at the initial encounter with the Gross Motor Function Measure-66, the Peabody Developmental Motor Scales-2 and a plan of care was established. Main goals for the patient were independent ambulation with a walker, standing balance, and functional strength. Main interventions used were task-specific with high repetitions, treadmill training, and family-centered approaches. The patient achieved the following goals of static and dynamic balance, functional strength for performing sit to stand, lowering to sit, and pulling to stand, and increased gait speed with improved ambulation distance. The patient was discharged to home with mother as primary caregiver.
