Abstract
A three-and-a-half year-old female patient with Ring Chromosome 13 presenting to the clinic with medical diagnoses of congenital spastic diplegia and ataxia was seen for physical therapy treatment provided for 13 sessions from March 2014 to May 2014 at an outpatient setting under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist. The patient was evaluated at the initial encounter with the Functional Mobility Scale (FMS), 10 Meter Walk Test (10MWT), Gross Motor Function Measure-66 item (GMFM66), Peabody Developmental Motor Scale-2nd Edition (PDMS2), and Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory (PEDI) and a plan of care was established. Main goals for the patient were to ambulate independently with a reverse walker and to be able to lower to the ground with hip and knee flexion. Main interventions used were task specific training including treadmill training and functional strength training. The patient achieved the goals of independent short distance ambulation with a reverse walker as well as increased overall gross motor function as measured by the FMS, 10MWT, GMFM66, PDMS2, and PEDI. The patient was discharged to home.
