Abstract
A patient status post emergency coronary artery bypass grafting was seen for 11 physical therapy treatment sessions of inpatient physical therapy. Treatment was provided by a student physical therapist under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist. The patient was examined at the initial encounter with manual muscle testing, Physical Function ICU Test, Activity Measure of Post-Acute Care “6 clicks”, and the 2-minute walk test. Identified impairments included strength deficits, lack of cardiopulmonary endurance, and decreased functional mobility. A plan of care was established to address these impairments. Interventions consisted of therapeutic bed exercise and progressive general mobility. The patient demonstrated improved strength, cardiopulmonary endurance, and functional mobility following the 11 treatment sessions. However, the patient remained at the inpatient facility for continued care with anticipated discharge home with home health physical therapy.
