Abstract
Throughout the years, statistics show that Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) has become more prevalent among school-aged students. Research suggests that there is a lack of social-emotional learning curriculums that specifically support students with ADHD. It is common to find that students with ADHD have specific behavioral and social-emotional needs which are evident within the school setting. The purpose of this project is to provide a practical and beneficial resource to educators that support the academic well-being of students with ADHD. The Social Superheroes curriculum is based on current research and provides interactive, fun, and practical social-emotional, and behavioral supports for school-aged students. More specifically, this curriculum supports students’ prosocial behaviors, social skills, and emotional regulation. The Social Superheroes curriculum is designed to support groups of four to five students with ADHD, who are in third and fourth grade. The majority of the curriculum focuses on small group lessons while the end encompasses observations and student reflections. This format ensures students are incorporating their newly learned social-emotional skills within the school setting. This project contains a literature review on the research of ADHD, social-emotional learning (SEL), and the current SEL curriculums. The literature review was used to develop the Social Superheroes curriculum which is designed to foster pro-social behaviors and ways to support common behaviors similar to ADHD. This project serves as a practical tool for educators to ensure students reach their full academic potential.
