Abstract
A patient who underwent a right total hip arthroplasty was seen for physical therapy treatment for four sessions from July 17th to July 19th, 2014 at an acute care hospital under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist. The patient was evaluated at the initial encounter with the Numeric Pain Rating Scale, manual muscle testing, “6 Clicks” Basic Mobility Inpatient Short Form, and functional mobility level of assistance assessment, and a plan of care was established. Inpatient goals for the patient included becoming independent in bed mobility, transfers, household ambulation with a front wheel walker, and in the performance of a home exercise program. Main interventions included patient education, therapeutic exercise, and repetitive training of functional activities such as bed mobility, transfers and gait training. The patient achieved all established inpatient goals. The patient was discharged to her home where she had 24 hour assistance available from her husband, and home health physical therapy.
