Abstract

Hmong Hearing loss Audiology

There is little published research on hearing loss in minority communities, especially among the Hmong. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the beliefs surrounding hearing loss in the Hmong older adult population in Northern California. Seven participants from the Hmong community were interviewed. The major themes included awareness of hearing loss etiologies, the importance of family, transportation needs, language barriers, and the use of herbal or home remedies.
