Abstract
Bilingualism is the ability to speak and understand two languages. The prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) is increasing among many ethnic groups. Many professionals advise bilingual households to use only one language in the home because it is believed that introducing two or more languages could be challenging for the child. Impairments in social communication and interaction is a major factor in children with ASD. This literature review will examine and inform what has been conducted in the research about the connections of these issues when making decisions for a child with ASD about their language environment.
