Abstract
Group Aural Rehabilitation (AR) teaches older adults with hearing loss how to communicate effectively and improve their everyday lives. Group AR sessions can include training in communication strategies, self advocation, hearing aid maintenance, psychosocial exercises and physical exercise. Multiple databases were searched, and 20 studies on the benefits of group aural rehabilitation over individual were found. Most of the studies found that even though slightly significant changes were found in outcome measures, participants perceived a benefit and improvement in their personal lives after participating in the group AR program. These studies indicate that a group AR program may have benefit for both participants and leaders not only in cost and time saving, but also in the patient psychosocial aspect.
