Abstract
Writers engage in a series of experiences to solve certain problems that are unique to a certain stage of writing; this is the writing process. It is exactly this problem-solving approach that makes the writing process more effective in creating thoughtful writers than more traditional approaches that focus solely on the finished product. Revision can be initially introduced by showing students how to use a response guide to examine pieces of writing. During the editing stage of the writing process, the writer “cleans up” the spelling, punctuation, and other mechanics of the language that make the writing more accessible to readers. Publishing is the celebratory step in the writing process when help students find many ways to share and disseminate their writing. This public phase of the writing process creates a sense of the real purpose of writing and allows students to feel genuine pride in their completed product.
