Abstract
California State University (CSU), Sacramento, merged the Science Library into the central reference department over a period of two years from 1998-2000. Because of the new arrangement, there has been an increase in reference hours, new reference services, more reference materials, and additional equipment to access the materials. Librarians have benefited through more collection development opportunities, increased collegial interaction, and a more stimulating environment for their own professional growth. The CSU, Sacramento, Science and Technology Library on the third floor had its own reference collection, map collection, circulating collection, and periodical collection, and it provides reference service to science and engineering students and faculty. The Science and Technology Section (STS) of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) conducted a series of surveys among Association of Research Libraries (ARL) regarding their science, technology, and engineering library operations from 1984-1993.
