Abstract
Diversity, equity, and inclusion issues have drawn massive attention and created increasing challenges among higher education institutions. This study thus explored how the 23 campuses of California State University system have engaged their employees into DE&I issues at the workplace, and how Chief Diversity Officers (CDOs) have communicated with university faculty and staff internally on these issues. A thematic analysis of university strategic plans and CDO job duties at the 23 CSU campuses was conducted. Under the theoretical framework of stakeholder theory and employee engagement, this study identified common themes in university strategic plans and CDO job duties that address employee engagement and participation in DE&I issues on campus.
