Abstract
Français Intermédiaire is a free, collaborative open textbook designed for intermediate-level learners of French as a Second or Foreign Language (FSL/FLE), Fourth Semester of University French in the USA. The textbook follows a communicative, intercultural, and antiracist approach, emphasizing the diversity of Francophone voices and fostering critical engagement with colonial legacies. This textbook is available in two distinct versions: A student version, featuring interactive texts, activities, audio recordings, maps, vocabulary lists, and guided spaces for reflection and production (a password protected instructor version is available to instructors @beatrice.russell@csus.edu). The four (4) thematic chapters explore topics such as cultural diversity, Francophone identities, colonial history and memory, economic inequalities, youth movements, and digital innovation in Francophone Africa. The textbook promotes active, critical, and contextualized learning.
