Abstract
This multi-part learning module guides students through the process of using data analysis to explore public opinion on immigration in the United States. Using the 2014 General Social Survey (GSS) and SPSS statistical software, students develop a research question, conduct data analysis, and produce a report examining factors that shape views on immigration.
Through 14 lab sessions, students practice generating descriptive and inferential statistics, interpreting findings, and communicating results effectively. The lab exercises build SPSS skills, introduce students to working with large-scale social data, and emphasize critical thinking about immigration and public opinion.
By the end of the series, students complete an independent project exploring relationships between two variables of their choice, producing a final report that synthesizes their findings.
